This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to calculate benefits and settle claims made under risk-based life insurance policies.

This unit applies to those processing and settling claims against insurance policies covering life risks.

1. Review claim settlement advice

1.1 Receive settlement advice for a claim against a risk-based life insurance policy 

1.2 Check that documentation  is correct and complete in accordance with procedures 

1.3 Confirm that organisational authority levels have been observed

2. Calculate benefits

2.1 Identify the extent of liability on the basis of collected evidence  and the terms and conditions of the life insurance policy 

2.2 Calculate and check benefits payable in accordance with procedures

3. Finalise claim settlement

3.1 Advise client of the consequences of proceeding with the payment in accordance with procedures

3.2 Obtain policy discharge as appropriate

3.3 Confirm method of payment with claimant

3.4 Enter and confirm payment information on appropriate systems to make payment

Context of and specific resources for assessment 

Assessment must ensure:

  • competency is demonstrated in the context of the work environment and conditions specified in the range statement either in a relevant workplace or a closely simulated work environment

Method of assessment
